100% Fish: Royal fish stew and noodles as long as the Danube arrive in Vukovar

From June 26th to 28th, Vukovar becomes a center of aromas, flavors and a great atmosphere. On the banks of the mighty Danube, the Danube Fest Vukovar 2025., and the central place is occupied by the unique gastronomic program "100% Fish", dedicated to the king of Slavonian and Danube cuisine - fish stew.

This great Vukovar fish festival is more than just a cooking competition. With the support of the Chefs of Mediterranean and European Regions (ŠKMER) and the Vukovar Tourist Board, a real culinary spectacle awaits us. Professional chefs, students, associations and enthusiasts will have the opportunity to show off their skills in preparing the best fish, while international culinary judges will decide who cooks the best fish on the Danube.

But that's not all. This year the festival is also bringing a new attraction – a wide noodle as long as 18,8 meters, symbolically celebrating the 188 kilometers of the Croatian course of the Danube. This record-breaking pasta will be prepared in front of an audience by the Vukovar-Srijem County Chefs' Association, with the support of Vukovar Beer, which inspired the idea. An entry into the Guinness Book of Records is also planned!

– Fish stew is a dish recognized in the city because river fish has always been part of the identity of the people of Vukovar. That is why this dish was chosen as part of the Vukovar gastro-branding project. At this festival, we celebrate life, the Danube and good food. There will be content for everyone, old and young, so everyone head east, said Marina SekulićDirector of the Vukovar City Tourist Board. The goal is clear – to position Vukovar as a top gastronomic destination, with an emphasis on sustainability and local tradition.

– For fish stew, the most important thing is quality fish, and it is known that Danube fish is the best, primarily carp, but also catfish and pike. It is essential to use only homemade ground paprika and onions, which are the foundation of every good fish stew. In addition, tomatoes, white wine and a good appetite are needed, emphasized gastroblogger Sandra Rončević.
