Albania tops the global list of the most popular destinations for families this summer, and our Dubrovnik is also on the list

Families are already preparing their suitcases for big summer trips. Leading digital travel platform Booking.com, whose mission is to make it easy for everyone to explore the world, reported that searches accommodation for families for the summer travel season already recorded an increase of 8% compared to last year, while searches letova on a global level, they recorded an increase of 21%.

These figures highlight the strong interest in travel this summer, as families look to make the most of the warmer months.

Families are looking for great beaches, delicious local cuisine and cultural experiences

Almost two-thirds (62%) of families cite spending quality time as the main motivation for traveling this year, followed by finding time to truly relax (58%) and discovering new places (48%).

The family's motivation to travel aligns well with this summer's hot spots, which include destinations known for their picturesque beaches, excellent local cuisine and rich opportunities for cultural immersion.

Whether it's the tranquil beaches of Durrës, Albania or the vibrant and diverse neighborhoods of Tokyo, Japan, these destinations offer plenty of places to stay and travel experiences that will enrich and entertain every member of the family.

A better view from the perspective of family travel

This year, family travel decisions are being shaped by a wide range of interests and behaviors that are changing the traditional way of traveling with our loved ones.

  • 55% of families worldwide say they were inspired to travel by tasting food seen in a show or movie, highlighting the influence of popular media on travel choices.
  • 48% of families plan to use AI tools as part of their travel planning in 2024, showing a desire to adopt new practices to optimize their journey. Families in the US, UK, Australia and New Zealand can now use AI Trip Planner, located directly in the Booking.com mobile app, to start the travel planning process.
  • Travel nannies could become a trend this summer with 31% of families who say they would probably budget for someone to babysit their child or children while traveling. This rate exceeds more than half (50%) in India, Hong Kong and Thailand.
  • Comfort is also a top priority because 74% of families worldwide list air conditioning as the most important amenity when booking accommodation.
