Barcelona - a short guide to the most famous locations of the Catalan capital

Barcelona, ​​​​the picturesque capital of Catalonia, is a popular destination for tourists and wanderers and often tops the travel list of many visitors to Spain. According to the Barcelona Tourist Board's 2023 report, the number of visitors to Barcelona is growing year by year by 12,4%, and Barcelona Airport serves more than 3,3 million passengers.

The Holy Family

Popularly known as La Sagrada Família, this Basilica of the Holy Family is a must-visit while in Barcelona. It began to be built in March 1882 and is still under construction. It was designed by the world-famous architect Antoni Gaudi, and declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2005. The architectural design of the building, the facades and the carvings on the exterior, along with the tall towers, is something you definitely cannot miss.

Park Güell

Another Gaudi creation is Park Guell, which is full of color with mosaics on the benches, curves and trees and plants. Located on a hill called Carmel Hill, the park offers a spectacular 360-degree view of the city. Initially conceived as a residential complex, Park Guell is now a public park that demonstrates Gaudi's architectural style that harmonizes the man-made with the natural environment.

La Rambla

La Rambla is one of the main thoroughfares of the city of Barcelona, ​​where you can find street performers, market stalls, cafes and shops. It stretches from Placa de Catalunya to the Christopher Columbus monument and is a great place to enjoy the spirit of this city. This famous avenue has many landmarks, including the Gran Teatre del Licea, one of the leading opera houses in Europe, as well as the vibrant Mercat de Sant Josep de la Boqueria where people can sample the famous Catalan cuisine.

The local vibe can still be felt along La Rambla even in the side streets lined with small bars and restaurants.

Gothic quarter

Barri Gothic also known as the Gothic Quarter is a medieval town with winding and winding streets and alleys. It is possible to visit ancient Roman ruins, beautiful cathedrals and small squares with cafes and shops. Meandering through the side streets of the Gothic Quarter is a great place to find beautifully designed courtyards, small shops and cozy bars. Casa Batllo and Casa Mila

These two buildings, namely Casa Batllo and Casa Mila or La Pedrera are considered Gaudi's masterpiece. Both of these architectural marvels are located on the world-famous Passeig de Gracia avenue and are characterized by complex exterior and interior designs. The colorful house with tiles and organic shapes was nicknamed the House of Bones because of its skeleton-like design. On the other hand, Casa Mila has a stone facade that has an undulating design as well as wrought iron balconies that also give a sense of movement.

Montjuic hill

Montjuic Hill is one of the most popular tourist centers with a beautiful view of Barcelona and the coast. Some of the places of interest include the Montjuic Castle, the magical fountain and the National Art Museum of Catalonia, which houses works of Romanesque, Gothic and modern art, as well as famous Catalan artists.

Camp Nou

Barceloneta is also known for its lively nightlife as there are many bars and clubs located along the promenade.
