In September, already traditionally, before and around the feast of St. Francis of Assisi, Franciscan Day and the Day of the City of Lipik are celebrated. The program includes numerous events that will be held during September and October. Over 20 cultural, sports and entertainment events will be held, and citizens and visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy a diverse program.
The richest part of the program is planned for October 5, when the events will start already in the early morning hours. In a series of interesting and entertaining events, the central place is occupied by two gastro-competition events - Ajvarfest and Fišijada.
Ajvarfest
The event that attracts a lot of attention in Lipik is Ajvarfest, which has been held for the ninth year, and the organizers are trying to make it a unique event in Croatia. Ajvar is a special type of spread made from red pepper and eggplant, secret spices, but sometimes also hot pepper. Depending on the amount and type of hot pepper, the taste can be between sweet and spicy. It is most often used as a spread and as an addition to grilled dishes, and as much as some people like it, they would eat it by itself with a spoon.
The program of the ninth Ajvarfest starts at 10 a.m., and contestants have until 16 p.m. to finish their meal. Ajvarfest is an ideal opportunity to socialize with friends, work colleagues or family, and with a little effort, peppers, eggplant, secret ingredients and a dose of adrenaline, you can prepare the finest homemade ajvar.
At the same time and in the same place, i.e. at 10 a.m. in the Park in Lipik, the 3rd traditional Slavonian breakfast will be held, which is ideally paired with ajvar. This year, the organizers will prepare or bake the biggest scrambled eggs.
Fisijada in Lipik
One of the events with the longest tradition in Lipik is the famous Fish Festival, which will be held in the city park for the 18th time. The program, with an all-day catering offer of food and drinks and a concert, starts at 14 p.m. with a carp hunt in a cloudy pool, and the winner of this year's fishing competition will be announced three hours later. Let's also say that the visitors of the Lipi Fish Festival will be able to enjoy the free fish, which will be distributed before the start of the competition.
Finally, let's say that for the climax of the "Franciškovo in Lipik 2024" event, two big concerts have been announced at the Lipik Pools. The first will be held on October 4 at 20 p.m., when the audience will be entertained by Hiljson Mandela, known for his energetic performances and specific musical style. A day later, after the traditional Fišijada and Ajvarfest, during the evening hours, on October 5 at 20 p.m., the legend of the music scene, the popular Halid Bešlić, will perform at the same place, whose concerts are always a real musical spectacle.
