"Goranski medun" is honey produced in the area of Gorski kotar and the Ogulin-Plaščan valley by bees of the indigenous breed of gray bee (Apis mellifera carnica) from honeydew, that is, sweet juice that most often appears on trees under favorable conditions and is produced by insects.
The color of meduna ranges from dark beige to dark amber to reddish-brown, and depending on the season, "Goranski meduna" can take on darker shades. The smell is medium to strong, balsamic, vanilla, with notes reminiscent of caramel, resin, dry leaves and burnt wood. It is characterized by a relatively weaker sweetness and associated aroma of medium intensity.
Let us remind you that, according to beekeeper Branko Vidmar, honey is by far the healthiest type of food for revitalizing the body. It contains even 12 times more minerals than nectar honey, is rich in folic acid and is nutritionally valuable in the diet of pregnant women. It contains a combination of sugars that is unique in nature. Sensory, organoleptically, it has a specific taste, and its main characteristic is that it is less sweet and thicker than nectar honeys.
