Matulov grunt - one of the three tourist sites of natural heritage

In 2002, 13 hectares of the valley of the Plešivica stream in the municipality of Sveti Juraj na Bregu it has been declared a natural monument. In this area, better known as Bedeković's hornbeam, the existence of as many as 81 plant species and 63 species of diurnal butterflies have been recorded. Bedeković's grabs they are primarily protected because they are the habitat of two species of endangered butterflies. Namely, the great meadow bluegrass and the dark meadow bluegrass live only on meadows that are mowed by hand.

It is therefore crucial for the survival of these endangered species traditional human activity. Without mowing, the meadows would turn into forests, which would cause the disappearance of meadow bluegrass and significant species of flora and fauna from this area.
