Fireworks, champagne, a concert, a Viennese waltz… are most often the main ingredients for a successful New Year's Eve. Most cities and municipalities throughout Croatia, but also the world, with more or less deviations, prepare such a program at the end of each year. But Varaždin is unique because of its visitors they enter the new year accompanied by a starting pistol, running through the streets of the ornate city.

The New Year's race in Varaždin will give you a slightly different experience than the ones you are used to. Namely, it is a race that is unique because starts exactly at midnight on New Year's Eve. The first New Year's race in Varaždin was held in 1977 and has been held for more than 40 years.
After a one-year break caused by the epidemiological situation, Varaždin residents and runners from different parts of Europe will once again be able to experience the race through Varaždin's city streets and squares in a festive atmosphere and with the support of many spectators celebrating the New Year.
It is a race that will forever be remembered, so it will gather this year as well a large number of competitors with an international sign. Namely, in addition to Croatians, participants from Slovenia, Austria, Germany and Bosnia and Herzegovina will also take part in the race.

The start and finish of the 43rd New Year's race in Varaždin is on King Tomislav Square in compliance with current epidemiological measures. The New Year's race will be organized by the Association of Sports Associations of the City of Varaždin and co-organized by the Athletic Club "Sloboda" Varaždin, and under the auspices of the City of Varaždin.
