Mrduja, an islet in the Split Gate, is the main reason for the "quarrels" between the people of Brač and Šoltan. Namely, since ancient times there has been a legend about an attempt to acquire ownership of this islet located west of Brač and east of Šolta.
The initiative to revive the legend of Mrduja's pulling and finally get an answer to the question "Whose Mrduja is?" she came from both islands and was readily accepted by residents and guests Brothers and Solte. Today, Potezanje Mrduje has profiled itself as the central event of the Šoltan and Milnar litas.
The legend has become a tourist attraction, and the two sides are fighting for supremacy over the island with the help of pulling ropes from boats, exclusively on oars, with muscle power. Thus, since 2008, every last Saturday in July, Milnarani and Šoltan have only one stubborn goal - conquer Mrduja.
Although they have tried 14 times so far, the iconic islet, whose ownership has been broken by spears for centuries, seems indifferent to their efforts and still does not budge. That's why they had nothing else left but to award the winners - symbolic ownership of the same, for the duration of one year.
One of the most popular ferries on the island is a true symbol of Dalmatia Dispatched. The people of Brač decided to strengthen it since last year extended program based on a tried and tested domestic recipe. In addition to the sports part of the competition, there are now also attractive tastings and seriously good musical treats. Mrduja has become a Fest since last year and is held in a program extended to three days.
Travel with the Croatian Gastro Map and sports competitions
The first part of the event has an attractive gastronomic sign. Mrduja Wine Fest will take numerous visitors' palates through all four Croatian wine regions in Milna on July 18 in the evening. The top varieties of wine will be masterfully combined with the gastronomic delicacies of the chefs of the Mediterranean and European regions. To the delight of those present, the Cambi official band will provide musical delicacies.
The next day you should roll up your sleeves. It will be held on Friday, July 19 Užežin Mrduje, whose program consists of sports competitions in the sea with categories for children and adults. All competitors in races on SUP boards and kayaks, after a tiring sports day, will be cheered up by the performance of the group A Live.
The grand finale - Mrduje Drag
However, the grand finale of Mrduja will follow on Saturday, July 20. That's when the central event takes place, the one for which the islanders gathered the most - the magnificent Mrduje Drag!
The program starts in the afternoon at 16:XNUMX p.m. with a welcome drink on the Milna waterfront and a performance by the B band. The Kuzma command ship departs from Milna for Mrduja, and there will be no shortage of music even on board - there you will be entertained by the Olinta Brass Choir and a DJ!
In order to start the Mrduja Pulling, all boats, trawlers and speedboats should be in the waters of the islet by 17:40. The start of the Mrduje Drag will be signaled by a signal rocket and then the boats from Šolta should line up on the line on the Šolta side, and the boats from Brač on the Brac side!
Since even after 14 attempts so far, Mrduja has not moved, the points for pulling will be taken by the island with more boats. In order to make the competition as fair as possible, but also less uncertain, additional competitions will be held on the command ship, with which both Šolta and Brač can win additional points and ensure victory.
"Čihova je Mrduja" will be known in the evening when the winner will be announced in Milna, who will receive ownership of the island for the next year. But then the fun just begins, and the good atmosphere will be in charge of the tried and tested master - Mladen Grdović.
