The most important music and stage event in central Croatia, founded in 1971, Varaždin Baroque Evenings this year will experience its own 51st edition. Varaždin Baroque Evenings are held mainly in churches and palaces, but not only in Varaždin - the festival has transcended the city limits since its first three-day edition.
Now are the Baroque evenings a two-week festival with about thirty concerts performed by several hundred musicians in front of approximately ten thousand audience members from around the world. It has established itself as a European and world famous festival of early music.
As part of the 51st Varaždin Baroque Evenings, from 17 to 29 September, only in Varaždin 23 concerts will be held and other events within the main part of the program, to which should be added 13 concerts outside Varaždin - Nedelišće, Varazdinske Toplice, Ludbreg, Križevci, Vinica, Gornji Kneginec, Prelog, Belec, Sveti Juraj na Bregu, Miholec, Šmarje pri Jelšah and Krapina. We must not forget to mention either additional program “Total Baroque” in which 11 more events will be held.
The Varaždin Baroque Evening Festival is of great importance for the Croatian musical baroque heritage as it encourages research, performance and preservation of Croatian Baroque works both to domestic and foreign performers who often perform together as part of the festival. An important part of the festival is also a scientific conference with topics in the field of culture and music, which is attended by the greatest cultural and musical experts from Croatia and Europe, emphasizing the importance of heritage preservation.
For several years now, the festival has had a partner country every year, and this year it is Slovenia. Entrance to all concerts of the 51st Varaždin Baroque Evenings, including the grand opening, is only possible upon presentation of a valid COVID certificate, respectively valid negative COVID test.
