The European Commission has announced that it is "Varaždin clip" got European protected geographical indication. That's it entered in the register protected designations of origin and protected geographical indications and is protected throughout the European Union, and the consumer is guaranteed the purchase of an authentic product.
The name protection story began three years ago when Association of Chefs of Varaždin County submitted to the Ministry of Agriculture a request for the protection of a geographical indication entitled “Varaždinski klipič”, and the area of production includes geographical area of Varaždin County.

"Varaždinski klipič" is handmade wheat milk pastry produced from smooth wheat flour, milk, sunflower (or vegetable) oil, yeast, sugar and salt from which a thin dough is made, which is then stretched, cut into strips and rolled into sticks at least 25 cm long, which must have 4 sets. The surface of the sticks is coated with egg and sprinkled with cumin seeds. Baked "Varaždinski klipič" has a crunchy, lactic-sour taste that initially gives the impression of softness on the palate, and then melts in the mouth. The outside is dark yellow to golden in color, smooth and firm in consistency, while the inside texture is white in color, soft and loose.
The Republic of Croatia now has 27 agricultural and food products whose name is registered in the European Union as a protected designation of origin or a protected geographical indication. In addition to the now registered name "Varaždinski klipič", other already registered products are: Krk prosciutto, Extra virgin olive oil Cres, Neretva mandarin, Ogulin sauerkraut / Ogulin sauerkraut, Baranja kulen, Lika potatoes, Istrian prosciutto / Istrian prosciutto, Drniški pršut Dalmatian prosciutto, Poljički soparnik / Poljički zeljanik / Poljički uljenjak, Zagorje turkey, Krk olive oil, Korčula olive oil, Pag lamb, Šolta olive oil, Varaždinsko zelje, Slavonian kulen / Slavonian kulin, Međimurje meat 'from tiblica, Slavonian honey , Istria, Paška sol, Zagorski mlinci, Paški sir, Bjelovarski kvargl and Brački varenik.
