Recipe for the holiday table: Stuffed turkey with mince pies

The inevitable turkey, even with grinders, it is a traditional dish for the Christmas holidays. It is a classic that never goes out of fashion and that is prepared at least several times a year for the holidays that the people of Zagreb love so much. And why is it a classic? The holiday season is ideal for large family gatherings, and this traditional specialty can be served at ceremonies where as many as 10 people can be present. And precisely because of this, recipe which we are on the pages Advent Zagreb found for you, is designed for eight to ten people.

Recipe: Turkey with minced meat for 8 to 10 people:

  • 3 to 4 pounds of cleaned turkey

For the filling:

  • 2 large buns
  • 150 ml of milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 head of chopped onion
  • 40 g of softened butter
  • 150 g turkey liver
  • 1 tablespoon chopped parsley
  • 30 g lard

For attachment:

  • 300 g grinders

Also:

  • 150 g carrots
  • 3 celery stalks
  • 100 g of celery root
  • 1 onion
  • Salt and ground black pepper

<strong>Preparation: </strong>

Cut the buns into pieces, transfer them to a suitable bowl, pour milk over them, add chopped liver, chopped parsley, chopped onion, butter, break two eggs, season with pepper and mix the ingredients well. Peeled turkey inside and out, season with a mixture of salt and pepper and fill it with the prepared mixture of bread, liver and eggs. Coat the bottom of the baking dish with fat, cover with sliced ​​vegetables, place the stuffed turkey over the vegetables, coat it with lard, cover with water and place in the oven, preheated to 220 ° C, for two and a half hours.

Towards the end of baking, break the grinders into smaller pieces in a suitable bowl, salt them, pour hot water over them and let them stand for a few minutes to soften. Remove the roasted turkey to a cutting board and strain the roasting juice. Cut the roasted turkey into pieces. Drain the softened grinders, pour over the baking juice and mix. Serve all together still hot with bread and turkey liver filling.
