The geological sights of this island are less known. You will hardly recognize the island from these photos alone, but they are exactly our invitation to explore this destination during the coming autumn.
It is a favorite because of its 30 sandy beaches and numerous small picturesque coves, which tourists from all over the world recognized almost 125 years ago. The tradition continues today, when this island, thanks to the crystal clear, warm and shallow sea, is an ideal destination for the whole family.
It's about an island Wednesday, but although known as an island of sun, sand and sea, this is also one of the greenest islands in our Adriatic. Rab is intertwined with more than 100 kilometers of hiking and biking trails where you can explore the beauties of the Mediterranean landscape at your own pace, and its geological sights are truly special.
Probably the most beautiful part of this wooded island is Kalifront Peninsula, known for its karst relief and indented coastline with many beautiful bays and coves hidden in a pine forest, ideal for active walks that you can enjoy regardless of age, as the highest peak of this part of the island is only 94 meters above sea level.
She is especially attractive Dundo Forest which is one of the few preserved forests of evergreen holm oak, a tree that can survive for over a thousand years. It is this forest that has been declared botanical park as early as 1949. Another green gem of the island of Rab invites you to explore - Komrčar Park, which was planted and designed by a forester in 1883 Pravdoje Belija.
Rab is an island of exceptional geological contrasts - rocky and bare in the north, due to the bora that blows up to 200 kilometers per hour here as well as on Pag, and then wooded and fertile on its western green side. In the area Lopar and Fruga wind and erosion have created canyons and other shapes in the sandy soil, as well as numerous sandy coves.
If you are interested in geology and fossils, we definitely recommend a visit Geopark with marked hiking trails. Slave passes and famous Premužić's path, named after the well-known forestry engineer and great lover of mountains Ante Premužić.
