The island of Cres is beautiful in every season, and from mid-September to mid-October it invites all visitors to a special way of getting to know each other - through free guided hiking tours. Walking and hiking are a great way to get to know the largest Croatian island, and good weather and pleasant temperatures and hundreds of kilometers of hiking trails are the best invitation.
From the middle of September, Saturday September 14, it starts program of free guided hike tours called Cres Hike which every Saturday and Sunday until October 13 will offer the opportunity to all interested visitors to get to know our island through active walks. Guided tours will depart from Cres, Martinšćica and Belog, and the tour schedule with all the details can be found at LINK. Visitors will be accompanied on guided tours by members of the Mountaineering Society Osoršćica and Xplore Cres.
Cres Hike - is a new project of TZG Cres, which aims to popularize an active lifestyle and offer guests of the island of Cres an additional way to get to know this unique island, which is almost 95% of the area is protected in the area of the Natura 2000 ecological network.
The island of Cres is ecologically completely unique, unrepeatable and very different from other Croatian islands, with several different climatic and vegetation zones and the freshwater Vrana lake in the very center. Cres is one of the islands with the richest flora and fauna and one of the last habitats of a very rare protected bird - the griffon vulture. More than 1.400 different plant species grow on the island of Cres. Sage, immortelle, milkweed, dandelion, nettle and other wild and medicinal herbs make the island of Cres a real botanical garden. It is precisely this great wealth of plant and animal life that is a true delight for nature lovers.
One of the sentences that best describes the island of Cres is – the perfection of the coexistence of nature and man with the relaxing sounds of the waves and the rustling of the leaves of the centuries-old olive trees. Cres is an island that captivates with its unspoiled nature and Mediterranean charm, and as such is the perfect destination to recharge your batteries and release the stresses of today's lifestyle.
Unspoiled nature and good weather they create numerous opportunities for outdoor activities throughout the year on the island of Cres, and for nature lovers and those who want to get to know the island, there are about 300 km of marked and marked hiking trails that connect the wilderness of the interior of the island with the glittering beauty of the coast.
As part of the free guided tours of the Cres Hike project, only part of these trails will be covered, but all interested visitors will be shown some of the most beautiful parts of the island. Tours are part of it Via Apsyrtides hiking networks of walkways, which are a new tourist product of the islands of Cres and Lošinj, as well as the project Kvarner Outdoor which promotes the most beautiful hiking trails in Kvarner.
Tours within the Cres Hike project are free for all participants with mandatory registration at by mail and a limited number of participants. Participants are invited to bring sports clothes and shoes, 1,5 l of water, a snack or fruit, and a hat. You walk at your own risk, and in case of bad weather, the organizer reserves the right to change the route or cancel the program.
