Almost a million hectares of surface area, 700 kilometers of river course, three rivers, five European states, these are amazing figures that describe the world's first five-state biosphere reserve. The largest protected river area in Europe is an international example of the synergy of nature protection and sustainable development. Five-state Mura-Drava-Danube biosphere reserve it stretches through Austria, Slovenia, Croatia, Hungary and Serbia. Due to its unique habitats and numerous rare species, it is also known as European Amazon.

In September 2021, UNESCO declared this entire area the first five-state biosphere reserve. The area has become an international example of the synergy of nature protection, climate resilience and sustainable development.

The European Amazon - a paradise for cyclists
The Amazon of Europe Bike Trail is 1250 kilometers long cycling route for an unforgettable vacation. Along the path there are numerous tourist attractions and a unique river landscape. You can cycle along three rivers and 27 stages through the deep shadows of old forests and along refreshing ancient rivers and swamps. You can also enrich your vacation with accompanying activities - canoeing or kayaking, bird watching, enjoying local hospitality and rich gastronomy.
The entire route of the European Amazon is divided into a Northern route of 550 kilometers and a Southern route of 700 kilometers. Every track, it is divided into daily stages – 11 on the North track and 16 on the South track. The beginning of the cycle path is in the Austrian town of Mureck, and it ends in the Hungarian town of Mohács.
