Zadar is a city rich in culture and history, but it also offers attractions that attract tourists from all over the world. Let's start from the western part of the Zadar waterfront, where they are located two incredible works by architect Nikola Bašić. Today, they are symbols of the city that the whole world recognizes.
Sea organ
A few years ago the Sea Organ was included among 50 most important reasons to travel in the world, next to the Great Wall of China or the Eiffel Tower in Paris! The choice was made by the recent Dutch "KLM InFlight" magazine, and the whole story actually got rolling when an article about the famous Zadar attraction was simultaneously published on portal of the American "Huffington Post" i British "Mail Online". Both articles on the American and British portal have made the Sea Organ a global hit thanks to countless shares and posts on social networks, and many world sports and pop stars have included it on their profiles.
The sea organ is constructed as stairs 70 meters long which descend into the sea and play the unique melody of the Adriatic Sea. Every time the waves touch the shore the sea organ produces an unforgettable enchanting sound that leaves no one indifferent.
Greetings to the sun
Greetings to the sun je 22 meter circle in the marble pavement with built-in solar panels that collect sunlight during the day and convert it into electricity. The best time to visit the Sun Greeting is just before dusk, because then you will be able to enjoy the famous Zadar sunset, which even the English film director Alfred Hitchcock said was the most beautiful in the world, even more beautiful than the one in Florida. After sunset, 10.000 light bulbs create different light effects in colors.
Museum of Ancient Glass
This museum that you must see if you are in Zadar it is a unique cultural institution, not only in Croatia but also in the world. The museum was opened to visitors in May 2009 and presents a unique work with more than 5.000 different glass objects. These are objects that date back to antiquity, from the first century BC to the fifth century AD. A special tourist attraction is the glass workshop, which you will find in the attic of the museum, where you can see live how glass is blown.
Zadar sphinx
Little is known to the general public about how Zadar has it a concrete replica of the Egyptian Sphinx. It was built by an art historian after the death of his wife. There is a myth that says that the Sphinx of Zadar fulfills love wishes. So if you are in love problems, you must find a sphinx. But it's worth seeing even if you don't have problems of this kind, but just want to see the only Croatian sphinx. In the Brodarica district, you will be delighted by the old villas and the view of the sunset, which some claim is the most beautiful in the world.
Zadar Forum
The Zadar Forum is by its own standards it is one of the largest in the Adriatic. Its width is as much as 45 meters, and its length is an impressive 90 meters. It had galleries above the porches and as a whole represents a very developed example of a forum complex, one of the most important among the ancient cities on the Adriatic. An inscription with the name of Augustus Proconsul for Illyricum Tamfila Vaale, on the wreath of the well from the Forum, testifies that the construction of the complex began as early as the 1s.
The remains of the Roman forum are one of the most intriguing things about Zadar, because they represent the thousand-year history of the city exposed to the public. Interestingly, the foundations of the Forum were hidden below the surface of the earth until the area was cleared after bombing in World War II.
