This year's photo safari route, in the length of five kilometers, follows the course of the river Česma through the Žutica forest from the fisherman's house to the mouth of the river Česma into the Črnec canal, which intersects the natural course of the river Lonja. The route continues to follow the Črnec canal and the dead Lonja river through the floodplain forest and pastures in the area of the Žutica forest called Behec.
On the mentioned route you will be greeted by mighty trees of field oak and ash with miraculous above-ground root structures. You will pass by the habitats of bar nutria that arrived in Croatia from South America, as well as a large habitat of beavers that inhabited the Žutica forest 25 years ago, pastures where horses and cattle graze freely…
The goal of a photo safari is to promote the importance of protection floodplain of the Žutice forest as areas of rich biodiversity and improving and raising the level of education and public awareness of the values of this area.
Žutica Forest is an ideal place for photo safari lovers
It is a junction of dense forest and floodplain at the edge Lonjsko polje. After wandering the expanses of this preserved wilderness, you will be back to you with Mother Nature.
The jaundice forest is for many still an undiscovered pearl of nature. It is specific in that it has been an oil field with more than 40 wells for more than 200 years, and despite that, the rich flora and fauna has survived in the forest.
Žutica is part of the ecological network of the European Union - Natura 2000, as a conservation area important for species and habitats of interest to the European Union. It is one of the largest lowland floodplain forests in Croatia. It is located only five kilometers from the center of Ivanić-Grad and is a real little paradise for many plant and animal species.
The name "Žutica" most probably comes from the name of the large yellow bush, which turns the lower parts of the forest yellow in the spring. Its value is reflected not only in the rich biodiversity, but also in the fact that Žutica is the first retention on the left bank of the Sava, downstream from Zagreb, whose purpose is to protect settlements along the Sava from floods.
