The new location of the famous Caffe de Matoš brings a unique holiday atmosphere with a retro touch and memories of "the good old days" when Zagreb families celebrated holidays together. The program has never been richer, and it was opened by the geniuses from Psihomodo Pop, but what visitors are particularly interested in is the gastronomic offer.
A rich holiday table has always been part of the "White Zagreb - city" tradition, and this can be felt on this unique Advent backdrop with even 13 restaurants. Although during the holidays, both here and around the world, the goal is to offer traditional flavors specific to Zagreb, modern times demand innovative approaches, so a lot of variety has been prepared for visitors to Advent on the Square.
Buncek with horseradish sauce and sauerkraut in a bun, kebabs in bao buns with ajvar sauce, sausages that we simply can't live without in winter, tacos, but also desserts such as kurtos, delicious dumplings, germ dumplings and fritters are just a part of what just waiting to surprise the palate! No one will be left thirsty, because almost all the houses serve mulled red and white wine, mulled gin and pelinkovac, rum punch, hot chocolate with rum, and tea with honey, along with brandies and liqueurs, as well as beer, wine and sparkling wine. And some a little differently...
At the cottage Oh La La there is something never seen before - Che-bunsi. The team has combined two things that everyone loves, namely kebabs in bao bans with cream, salad, fried onions and homemade ajvar sauce. Vegetarian offer is available at Falcon cottages - vegan medallions with toasted focaccia with two homemade sauces and vegan fritters! This house also prepares great hot cocktails, so visitors will be able to try them Bitter Sweet GINphony with gin, grapefruit, apple juice, lemon and ginger; RUM-ble in the Jungle with rum, lemon, tea and special winter syrup; you Drunk Cowboy by WHISKEY which includes whiskey, apple juice, lemon, ginger, water and winter syrup.
This year at the Legendary Advent you will also find Ferdinand dumplings home-made dumplings in fantastic combinations of flavors and banana bread with vanilla sauce, but also something completely different that will surely attract lovers of 'something on a spoon' - beef and vegetable stew with dumplings, beef soup with dumplings and salty Shufnoodles. Dumplings will also be packed in boxes of six or nine for all those who want to continue enjoying these flavors at home, or give them as gifts and share them with loved ones.
The team at the cottage Kürtös House by Cugeraj she was inspired by her travels in Europe and decided to bring something different to Zagreb this year - Kurtose. Trdelnik and Chimney Cake are also some names for this delicious dessert. It is prepared here in as many as five different variants, and the names are inspired by Christmas characters, so you will find kurtoš here. Golden Rudolph, To Baka i Deda Mraz. The legendary Advent on the Square, like most European cities where Advents and big festivals are held, has decided to exclusively pay by card, which is completely tax-transparent, faster, simpler, and perhaps most importantly, a much more hygienic transaction model. Also, last year, Advent was held at Ban Josip Jelačić Square as well as at some other locations cashless, and this year it is also in several other locations and in Samobor. But after citizens' inquiries Caffe de Matoš decided to introduce cash payment as well, which will be possible starting this week. The legendary Advent on the Square lasts until January 7, 2024.
