Mali Ston oyster - another Croatian product with a protected name in the European Union

In the last two weeks, Croatia has received three new products under the brand name. Recall, in late September it was Brač varenik, last week it was his turn Varaždin klipič, and this Mali Ston oyster. This is the 28th Croatian product he received European protected designation of origin.

The name protection process began in August 2017, when Association "Ston shellfish Ston" submitted to the Ministry of Agriculture a request for protection of the designation of origin called "Malostonska kamenica". The geographical area in which all stages of production of Mali Ston oysters take place includes the waters of Mali Ston Bay which belongs to the territory of the Republic of Croatia.

"Malostonska kamenica" has soft and juicy flesh of sweet-salty balanced taste which melts in the mouth. The uniqueness stems from the unique natural features of Mali Ston Bay and the skills that have been developed over the centuries breeding traditions in Mali Ston Bay. Unique properties of the waters of Mali Ston Bay, optimal amount and composition of food, excellent seawater quality with the application of traditional knowledge and skills they directly reflect on the quality and organoleptic properties of this esteemed product.
