The Croatian Tourist Board launched a project to encourage the development of sustainable tourism called "Croatia is naturally yours" which aims to plant additional trees in tourist destinations due to the reduction of the carbon footprint caused by, among other things, increased tourist activity.
Vinkovci Tourist Board this year too, she joined this action. Thus, in cooperation with the Administrative Department of Communal Economy and Planning of the City of Vinkovci and the company Cvjećarstvo, she planted 10 maple seedlings right on the site of the Sopot archaeological park. The trees will continue to be taken care of by Cvjećarstvo doo
Archaeological Park Sopot is connected with the center of Vinkovci along a three-kilometer-long pedestrian-cycling path, and it is located next to excursion resort Sopot. The park unites six Sopot houses from the younger Neolithic Stone Age and dating back to 5 years before Christ, and they were built in swamps, along streams or, as in this case, along the Bosut River.
The houses were reconstructed according to the finds from that locality, and they were called "Sopot" because of the culture to which they belonged, which has been named so since 1971 thanks to the archaeologist prof. Stojan Dimitrijevic.
The total value of the project is slightly more than 2.000 euros, while HTZ co-finances the project in the amount of 1.348,29 euros. Each seedling is marked with the label "Croatia naturally yours" and entered into the "Map my tree" planting monitoring application of the European Environment Agency.
The project "Croatia naturally yours" contributes, among other things, to the preservation of biological diversity, the aesthetic arrangement of space and the promotion of environmentally conscious tourism that nurtures the natural beauty and identity of Croatian destinations.
