The British want to go on holiday this summer. Are they coming to Croatia?

As the measures introduced due to the coronavirus pandemic weaken, so does the interest of the tourism sector in the way travel enthusiasts think. And while experts are quite cautious in their announcements, a survey conducted in the UK gives reason for optimism.

The travel agency Overseas Leisure Group conducted a survey among 500 British travel enthusiasts, and the results are quite encouraging, as they show that most of them, as many as 80%, are already planning future travel and holidays.

41% of respondents said they were ready for vacation this summer. It is encouraging for Croatia that almost half of Britons from the survey will go on holiday outside their country, and 63% of them will visit a European destination.

The vast majority of respondents, 87% of them, think that travel is currently just on hold, that is, they do not think that tourism will change forever. 42% of respondents even stated that they would make a reservation now that there would be no payments before the trip, as well as cancellation fees. The survey was conducted from April 24 to 28, and almost 75% of respondents are between 30 and 50 years old.

The survey is also interesting for the Croatian market, if we take into account how a large number of Britons think about European destinations. Last year, according to the Central Bureau of Statistics, more than 850.000 tourist arrivals from the Island were recorded, which is 4,6% more than the year before. The British realized 4,3 million overnight stays, or 3,5% more than in 2019. In the Split-Dalmatia County, which last year was second in terms of overnight stays and tourist arrivals, the British accounted for 6,7% of total overnight stays, while in Dubrovnik, the city with the highest number of overnight stays in 2019, tourists from the UK accounted for as much as 22% of all foreign overnight stays.
