On the first Saturday of July, a sparkling breakfast was held in the vineyard at the Papak winery. It is already a well-known concept to wine lovers, which was designed by tireless wine promoter Marija Vukelić, and which had its editions in numerous vineyards throughout Croatia (Plešivica, Erdut, Zagorje, Kvarner...), and also in the easternmost one - Srijem; this year, the sparkling breakfast in Srejem was held for the fifth time.
Nose is the easternmost municipal unit of the Republic of Croatia, and there is a hamlet some seven kilometers southeast of the city center Rados – the easternmost populated place in Croatia, inhabited mainly by Slovaks, which can be immediately noticed thanks to the numerous houses embodied by the characteristic shade of blue. Radoš can be reached by paved road by going towards the border crossing Ilok II, which leads to Vojvodina Nonsense, and then just before the border, turn right. Driving through picturesque hills Fruška Gora overgrown with endless tangles of vines, you reach Radoš in no time, and on the edge of that cute little village there is also Papak winery which is already the traditional host of Srijem's sparkling breakfast.
That July morning, already ten hours before the official start of the event, the sun was relentlessly scorching, but intense wind on Radoš, he eased that pain - not so strong that it breaks glasses and blows away the served delicacies, but still quite solid strength to refresh and invigorate.
They were invigorating and great Ilok sparkling wine. Still under the impression of the celebratory breakfast where they toasted with that unique sparkling wine after winning the championship title at 56th continental Croatian wine exhibition in mid-June in Sveti Ivan Zelina, I rushed to the OPG point Sources of life in Zelenik to enjoy the bubbles Carmen Sylve – sparkling wine with liqueur made from pine needles harvested on the eponymous promenade in Opatija, named after the stage name of the Romanian Queen Elizabeth.
In addition to this pearl, Izvori života also have sparkling wine Bigesta, and Aureus based on chardonnay; the first is semi-dry demi sec, and the second is dry brut, and sparkling wine "U sridu" which was produced in a limited series of 2000 bottles on the occasion of the three hundredth anniversary of Sinjska alka, and Double gold, which also contains 24 carat hammered gold. The other sparkling wines at this breakfast were also great; I would especially single out the one under the name "Cuccium" (Latin name for Ilok from the era of Roman rule) created from graševina, which it produces TRS winery.
Exciting bubbles were accompanied by delicious snacks, and he was in charge of organizing that part of the work the restaurant of the Dunav Hotel in Ilok, winner of Michelin's Bib Gourmand award. There was everything on the table, from cvarak and kulen to bags and schnenokla. In addition to sparkling wines, other wines from the Ilok vineyard were also poured at this event. The dry traminac from the Kast winery is great, the cabernet franc from the TRS winery is also excellent... and the list could go on and on...
During the breakfast for painting lovers, a "Feel good & paint" workshop, and workshop Sweet & blue – blind tasting of Srijem's tramina cheeses and French blue cheeses. At 13:XNUMX p.m., the one from Srijem was also held First – the premier presentation of wine novelties, so the breakfast that started at ten o'clock extended into the afternoon, the atmosphere was relaxed and pleasant, few people were in a hurry to go home. That Saturday late morning and early afternoon, Radoš was an oasis of decent hedonism.
Returning home and passing through Ilok itself, we enjoyed the view Church of St. Ivan Capistrano on the left and light poles in the function of nests on the right. Passing through the gigantic surduk at the exit from the city, it was as if we passed through a portal that separates the Ilok kingdom of wine and antiques from the rest of the universe. Ilok is special and you should always return to it, and this was proven by the fifth Srejm sparkling breakfast.
