The Goran town of Fužine is a well-known destination with a long tourist tradition. Namely, the first organized arrival of guests was recorded as far back as 1874. Back then, guests came to this area on special trains from Rijeka and the surrounding coastal towns to enjoy the beautiful nature and pleasant climate.

The place is located at 730 meters above sea level, the climate is a continental variant of the Mediterranean with particularly beautiful spring, summer and autumn. In summer, temperatures rarely exceed 30 degrees, and there are almost no warm nights.

What is worth visiting?
A particularly significant tourist attraction of the Fužina region is the Vrelo cave. It was discovered during the construction of Lake Bajer, in the fifties of the last century. It is well lit and arranged for visits with an expert guide. It is 300 meters long, and its specificity is that it is the only touristic cave in Croatia through which underground water flows. In addition, even people in wheelchairs can visit it.

The cowboy village of Roswell, the famous scene of the cult film Winnetou based on the novels of the German writer Karl May, is also very attractive for visitors. It was opened two years ago, and since then it has been frequented by western fans of all ages. Filming took place in 2015 and 2016.


Roswell offers everything that the conquerors of the Wild West once had - a large wooden railway structure, a chapel, benches and a cemetery. In the town you can also find a blacksmith shop, a horse trough and a stable, a bank, a saloon, a brewery, a Chinese laundry, a post and telegraph office, a store, a water tower, a small sawmill, a public bathroom, an interesting house where Fat Betty and Sweet Dolly, and of course the sheriff's office.


Sports and recreational facilities
Fužine offers numerous sports and recreational facilities. There are nine marked hiking and cycling trails in the area, hiking trails are also marked, and the most popular is the promenade around Lake Bajer with the accompanying trim trail. The beautiful Gorica park with three tennis courts offers the possibility of active sports and recreation, and the Gmajna sports and recreation center is located in the village of Vrata.

The end of July in Fužine will be marked by a spectacular sports and music event, including the European Cup in SUP (Stand Up Paddling), which will bring together many lovers of this fast-growing sport and the traditional music and dance spectacle Rock under the dam.

It will be held on Friday, July 28 and Saturday, July 29 Rock under the dam during which true rock lovers will 'come into their own'. On Friday from 19:XNUMX the visitors will be delighted by the performance of the Goranian rock band Što kaj rock. As many as three bands will perform on Saturday evening, Arsenal from Pula, PleteRI from Rijeka, who often performed as frontmen for Opča Opasnasti, and the band ART Club Gorski Kotar, which is also a co-organizer of the event in cooperation with the Tourism Office of the Municipality of Fužine.

SUP competitions at the highest altitude in Europe
It will be held in the morning hours on Saturday from 11 am European SUP Cup on Lake Bajer. Attractive stand-up paddleboarding is extremely demanding and positively affects general psychophysical ability, balance, strength, flexibility and cardiovascular endurance. Rowers use almost all muscle groups of the body during this activity.

On Saturday, there will be races in two disciplines, sprint and long distance for adults and especially for children. This exceptional sporting event continues on Sunday, when the 2nd Fužine SUP regatta will be held in the co-organization of the VOP SUP team and the Fužine Municipality Tourism Office. The regatta is so named because it is held at the highest altitude in Europe.

Environmentally friendly sport
Sunday is reserved for active athletes and recreationists, and will be held children's regatta and competitions for adults in three disciplines Fun of 2 km, Race of 4 km and Elite of 6 km. SUP is an environmentally friendly sport because it does not require the use of motors or other sources of pollution. SUP participants are often aware of the importance of preserving nature and water and encourage awareness of environmental protection.

The sporting event takes place within the Festival of sports recreation Sport for all, and is supported by the Sports Recreation Association of the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County and the Kvarner Tourist Board.
