What connects Vinkovci and the first day of spring? Orion – the oldest Indo-European calendar

The city of artists, musicians, urban and at the same time traditional culture, they are all from Vinkovci. Located in the east of Croatia, in tame Srijem, it is a city that has been the intersection of numerous cultures throughout its long history. In the area of ​​today's Vinkovci people have been living continuously for more than eight thousand years, and during this period numerous cultures were exchanged from Starčevačka, Sopotka via Vučedolska.

Orion – the oldest Indo-European calendar

Orion, the oldest Indo-European calendar, was found in Vinkovci. The original ceramic vessel, on which the calendar was engraved, is kept in the Vinkovci City Museum, located in one of the most beautiful baroque buildings in the city, which is worth a visit. Priceless collections are kept in that place, and there you will discover the meaning of Orion.

This culture existed during the Sumerian period in Mesopotamia, the Old Kingdom in Egypt and early Troy. The entire range of decorations on Vučedol vessels is based on the Sun and astral symbolism, as well as Venus and Mars.

Vinkovci Mystery, a painted vessel of unusual appearance, Orion, was found on March 21, 1978 at the location of today's Hotel Slavonija. It was found by archaeologist Dr. Aleksandar Durman, and at the time it was a great mystery. But twenty years later Durman understood and discovered the meaning hidden in this vessel. He discovered that the Orion vessel is the oldest European calendar, dating back to 2.600 BC.
